Preparation for college is not an easy task, however, with proper guidance, high school students can become successful college graduates. A variety of preparations can be taken, though the most valuable tasks include high school course selection and study skill development, college choice, scholarship application and overcoming the fear of failure. Throughout the process, a number of individuals influence the student and help to set them on a course for collegiate success. Let s explore the college preparation process, and understand what the people in a student s life can do to help him/her prepare for college. Teachers begin a student s preparation for college through their guidance in the classroom. This guidance begins in the early years of elementary school through knowledge exploration, however, critical thinking becomes even more important as the student enters high school. One way teachers can help nurture growth in the classroom is by encouraging students to ask questions.
